LES FILEUSES: CREATION AND REGIONAL PROJECT IN FLERS ET ATHIS DE L’ORNE (61)

A creative project involving the people of Flers, Athis and the surrounding area, Les fileuses will take as its source, inspiration and theme the history of weaving in Flers and the surrounding area, which has been linked to the textile industry since the Middle Ages.

By combining the historical past (medieval music, songs, ballads), the heritage of Flers and its region (the history of weaving), and personal memories (poetic and musical recollections, life stories, collections), De Caelis will create a musical work with a temporary choir formed around the project. It will be an intergenerational project, reaching out to children, adults and the elderly, giving access to creation and voice work to audiences who are sometimes far removed from it.

Artists associated with the project: Antoine Berland (www.antoineberland.com), composer; Dominique and Benoit Delommez and l’EstrAde (www.lestrade-art.com); Marjolaine Salvador Morel, lace-maker, visual artist (https://marjolainesalvadormorel.fr).

Several events are planned throughout 2024 as part of the project:
• Singing workshops
• Memory cafés, meetings, discussions, and collection of family stories
• Musical commission, rehearsals, and creation. The piece will « weave » the collected words, mechanical rhythms, and electronic sounds. It will involve amateur musicians who participated in the workshops with the De Caelis ensemble.
• Meeting with Marjolaine Salvador Morel on thread and lace work.
