Anonymous 13th-century motets
Pieces by John Cage, Jacques Rebotier, Georges Aperghis
Poetry by Ghérasim Luca
For voice and organetto.
The Word, the ‘natural music’ of words, is the raw material of this programme, which gives pride of place to humour and theatricality. The poetry of Ghérasim Luca, a weaver of words to the point of absurdity, creates a comical and metaphysical link throughout the concert. All the pieces on the programme have a taste for play and fun. Often surprising and playful, these precious architectures of sound rival each other in invention. Very fashionable in the 13th century, the motet skilfully plays with musical discourse and dialectic art. It superimposes and interweaves different texts and languages, stuffing, hiccuping, glossing, mocking or praising, as the case may be. The recent works on the programme share this spirit, this taste for experimentation and the unheard of. They make virtuoso and musical use of language. Motets, words, verbiage, virelangue, grommelot, poetry… The music of language from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. A fun way to discover these little-known repertoires!
