THE OFFERING OF THE HEART
As part of the exhibition La Chambre des Songes by visual artist Marjolaine Salvador-Morel (https://marjolainesalvadormorel.fr/)
This programme, both melodious and poetic, is a window onto the human soul, prey to the sweetness and torments of love. Voices, bowed viols, organetto, flutes and vihuela de penola come together for a romantic adventure once sung by poet-musicians.
This intimate little theatre is peopled with desire, sadness, separation, beauty and sensuality. Courtly music of the 13th and 14th centuries celebrates the ideal of refinement and chivalry, but also the doubts and uncertainties of the heart. Love is universal, and the songs of yesteryear touch the hearts of today, a living sentiment that defies time and continues to move us. And to blur the boundaries, ancient works mingle with contemporary French songs ‘cooked up’ with a medieval sauce. A touch of fantasy that delights the heart!
